A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has dismissed reports suggesting that the former Rivers State governor may be moving to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The faction’s National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Mohammed, made the clarification in a statement on Wednesday, describing Wike as an important figure within the PDP.
The statement followed recent remarks by APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda, who praised Wike’s leadership qualities and said he wished the FCT minister belonged to the ruling party.
Responding to the comments, the PDP faction said the praise from the APC only showed the influence and quality of leaders produced by the opposition party.
“The commendation from the ruling party only confirms the quality of leaders the opposition has produced over the years,” the statement said.
The faction added that it had no plans to allow Wike leave the PDP despite political pressure or possible offers from other parties.
“We have no intention of allowing Wike leave permanently, regardless of political pressure or offers from the APC. He is a valuable asset to the PDP,” it stated.
Wike remains a card-carrying member of the PDP while serving as a minister in the APC-led Federal Government, a situation that has continued to generate political discussions.
