The controversy surrounding the family of late Nollywood legend Mr Ibu has taken another dramatic turn as movie producer Stanley Ontop publicly questioned the actor’s widow, Stella Marris Okafor, over her recent appeal for financial assistance.
His comments came shortly after Stella emotionally revealed that she and her children are battling severe financial hardship, claiming they now fetch water from a well because they cannot afford rent and have been living without electricity for months.
However, Stanley Ontop challenged the appeal, alleging that the late actor left behind substantial assets and cash. He questioned why the family would be asking Nigerians for donations barely two years after Mr Ibu’s passing. These are allegations made by Stanley Ontop and have not been independently verified.
In a video shared online, the producer claimed that Mr Ibu allegedly left ₦66 million in his account and further alleged that Stella sold more than eight of the late actor’s properties in Asaba and Enugu. He also questioned the whereabouts of donations reportedly contributed by Nigerians during the actor’s illness and burial.
“How can you come out barely two years after your husband’s death asking Nigerians to contribute money again? Mr Ibu allegedly left ₦66 million in his account. Nigerians also donated over ₦30 million during his illness. You sold several of his properties. Where did all the money go?” he asked.
Stanley’s remarks come amid similar claims by one of Mr Ibu’s sons, who recently accused Stella of taking control of the late actor’s properties and selling some of them without accounting for the proceeds. Stella has not publicly responded to these latest allegations.
The family dispute has reignited public interest in the late actor’s estate, with many fans calling for transparency while urging both sides to settle their differences peacefully.
Mr Ibu, born John Okafor, passed away in March 2024 after battling health complications. Since his death, disagreements over his estate and financial affairs have repeatedly surfaced in the public, drawing widespread attention across social media.
