Afrobeats superstar Davido has reacted angrily to comments by APC youth leader Dayo Israel following his uncle, Ademola Adeleke’s victory in the Osun State governorship election.
Dayo Israel had attributed part of Adeleke’s electoral success to Davido’s influence, particularly the people he brought into the campaign.
However, the singer was quick to reject the claim, making it clear that he did not organise anyone to defend him or his uncle.
Davido rejects credit for Adeleke’s victory
In a strongly worded response, Davido said he simply supported his family in his own way and did not bring anyone into the political battle.
He expressed disappointment over the comment and appeared frustrated by the way his involvement in the election was being portrayed.
“I brought no one! No one defended me! I backed my family on my own!! You guys are ruthless and disgusting! Eeewwww!”
Davido added that he had done what he believed was necessary and wanted no further involvement in partisan politics.
“I have done my job! Nigerian politics is evil, AND I DON’T WANT TO BE A PART OF IT…”
Davido was vocal throughout the Osun election
The singer was highly active during the election period, publicly defending his uncle and responding to several critics and opponents.
He previously called out Osun Senator Francis Fadahunsi over an alleged call for violence against members of the Accord Party, saying such comments could encourage attacks and create division.
Davido also criticised the APC in Osun after the election, accusing the party of being against progress and warning that people would learn from the outcome.
The singer equally clashed with Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo after the governor mocked Adeleke’s dancing. Davido responded by sharing his WAEC result and questioning the criticism directed at his uncle.
His latest outburst, however, suggests that despite his strong support for Adeleke during the election, Davido wants to distance himself from Nigerian politics going forward.
The singer has repeatedly maintained that his involvement was primarily about supporting his family, rather than pursuing a political role.
