Prophet Isa El-Buba has criticised Islamic cleric Sheikh Sani Yahaya Jingir over remarks in which Christians were reportedly referred to as “infidels.”

El-Buba expressed his displeasure in a viral video while reacting to comments allegedly made during a Muslim gathering attended by Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

The Christian cleric questioned why a religious leader would use such language against Christians, warning that inflammatory remarks could further deepen religious tension and division in northern Nigeria.

El-Buba condemns ‘infidels’ description

In the video, El-Buba appeared visibly angered by the reported reference to Christians as infidels.

“But I can see the governor of Kano state. This is how insane all of you are in northern Nigeria, some of you. This is the way you think,” he said.

He criticised those who make statements he believes could encourage hostility between Muslims and Christians.

“People that are brainless. Somebody is standing there in your meeting shouting Muslim, Muslim, calling Christians infidels. And I’m not going to take this,” El-Buba said.

He questioned how Christians would respond if Muslims were subjected to similar remarks.

“If Christians should do this, who is going to have a country?” he asked.

Prophet links remarks to northern Nigeria’s challenges

El-Buba also linked his criticism to some of the social and security challenges facing northern Nigeria.

He questioned why religious leaders would focus on what he described as inflammatory rhetoric while communities in the region continue to face poverty, insecurity, criminality and drug abuse.

“Northern Nigeria, Muslims, you talk about the highest capital poverty of the world. Are you not ashamed?” he said.

“Are you not ashamed that banditry is here in the north? Criminality is here in the north. It is here in the north, you have the highest level of drug addicts.”

According to him, religious leaders should use their influence to address issues affecting ordinary people rather than make statements that could further divide society.

‘You are supposed to preach a message of hope’

The prophet argued that clerics have a responsibility to promote messages capable of helping people overcome poverty, crime, addiction and other social challenges.

“That you are supposed to be, if you are sane, to begin to preach the message that will help to bring people out of bondage and out of their captivity,” he said.

El-Buba further accused those making anti-Christian statements of engaging in what he described as incitement.

“You are there making stupid statement and inciting against Christians and calling them, look at them infidels,” he said.

He also questioned why Christians would politically support people whom he believes promote such rhetoric.

“If they think they have voting power, what should any Christian that is going to align themselves with these evil brainless people and creatures?” he asked.

El-Buba calls for rejection of religious intolerance

El-Buba also addressed what he described as his Muslim brothers who oppose religious intolerance.

He urged them to speak out against clerics whose comments could worsen relations between Christians and Muslims.

“And I am speaking to my Muslim brothers who are saying, you cannot be allowing this kind of creatures to be flowing among you,” he said.

The prophet also called on residents of Kano to hold their political leaders accountable, saying:

“And I want to say to all the Kano people, it’s time that whatever is your name, the governor of Kano, it’s time you throw that guy out of that seat.”
